Sorry for the “ad” pic, but it just states so clearly what this is about, namely: for one week only (offer ends September 26, 2008) you can buy a complete Sony studio for $149.95.
Well, to be picky the studio doesn’t include any hardware, which hardly makes it a studio. What it does include is Sony Creative Softwares Home Studio production tools, some – or all depending on what you do – which I think would be interesting for podcasting. In this suite you find something for music production, audio editing and processing, video processing and a bonus photo program.
So let’s have a look at what it includes:
- Vegas Movie Studio: create movies and slideshows. Includes DVD Architect Studio software to make your own DVDs.
- ACID Music Studio: multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, and over 3,000 ACIDized loops.
- Sound Forge Audio Studio: record, edit, encode, and master audio on your PC. Includes vinyl recording and restoration and new Vocal Eraser plug-in.
As an extra bonus: Photo Go – photo management and archiving.
Well, what do you know! It’s iLife for PC!
I don’t have any experience with any of these apps besides ACID, but I haven’t used it in many years. I have used Sound Forge as well, but very little and also a long time ago. Back in the day it was considered to be a really good audio editor for PC users. You should note that the “Studio” versions, which these are, are the lightweight products of Sony’s full-blown ACID, Vegas and Sound Forge. They might suit your need anyway.
